How to Add a Chatbot to Your Wix Website in 5 Minutes

Skip the Wix App Market. Here is how to add a chatbot to your Wix site with one line of code using the Custom Code feature.

The Wix App Market has dozens of chatbot apps. Most of them are either too simple (scripted menus that frustrate visitors) or too complex (enterprise tools that cost more than your entire Wix subscription). A dentist in Dallas does not need a $150/month chat platform with Salesforce integration.

Here is a simpler option: skip the App Market entirely and add a chatbot to your Wix site with one line of code.

Why most Wix chatbot apps miss the mark

Wix has its own built-in chat (Wix Chat), plus dozens of third-party options in the App Market. The problem is not a lack of options. It is that none of them are quite right for a typical small business.

Wix Chat is basic. It is a live chat tool, meaning someone (you) has to be online to respond. If a visitor messages you at 9 PM on a Tuesday, they get silence until you check your phone. That is not a chatbot. That is a voicemail with extra steps.

App Market chatbots are scripted. Most of them use decision trees. You pre-write every question and answer, map out conversation flows, and hope you covered everything. When a visitor asks something you did not anticipate, the bot either gives a generic fallback or loops them back to the main menu.

The good ones are expensive. The chatbot apps that actually use AI tend to charge $50 to $200 per month on top of your Wix premium plan. For a roofing company or a salon doing $5K to $15K a month, that math does not work.

How to add it (step by step)

Wix has a built-in Custom Code feature that lets you add scripts to your entire site. Here is how to use it.

Step 1: Open Custom Code settings

  1. In your Wix dashboard, go to Settings (the gear icon in the left sidebar)
  2. Scroll down to the Advanced section
  3. Click Custom Code

Step 2: Add the script

  1. Click + Add Custom Code
  2. Paste the script tag:

  1. Replace pk_your_key_here with your actual public key from your Mika dashboard
  2. Under "Name," type something like "Mika Chatbot"
  3. Under "Add Code to Pages," select All pages
  4. Under "Place Code in," select Body - end
  5. Click Apply

That is it. The chatbot now appears on every page of your Wix site.

Want it on specific pages only?

When adding the custom code in Step 2, instead of selecting "All pages," choose Choose specific pages and pick the ones you want. This is useful if you only want the chatbot on your homepage and services page, for example.

Which Wix plans support Custom Code?

Custom Code requires a Premium plan. Here is the breakdown:

  • Free Wix plan: No Custom Code support. You would need to upgrade.
  • Light plan: No Custom Code support.
  • Core, Business, and Business Elite plans: Full Custom Code support.
  • Enterprise: Full Custom Code support.

If you are running a real business on Wix, you are almost certainly on a Core or Business plan already, which means this works out of the box.

What about Wix Studio (Editor X)?

If you are using Wix Studio (the more advanced editor, formerly Editor X), the process is slightly different:

  1. Go to Settings > Custom Code (same as above), or
  2. Use the Wix Studio Dashboard > Marketing Tools > Custom Code

The script tag and placement are identical. Body end, all pages, save.

What happens after you save

Does it conflict with Wix Chat? No. They are completely independent. If you have Wix Chat enabled, both will appear on your site. Most businesses disable Wix Chat after adding Mika since you no longer need to be online to respond to visitors.

Can I customize how it looks? On the Pro plan, you can match the chatbot's brand colors to your Wix site design. On all plans, the chatbot is designed to feel natural alongside your content.

Does it work on mobile? Yes. The chatbot is fully responsive and works on all devices. It adapts to mobile screens automatically.
